Thank you for your interest in playtesting the beta version of Xylem: The Code of Plants!
Xylem is an iPad application. Since Apple tightly controls what applications run on their devices, you need to go through a series of steps to run Xylem on your iPad. We use a helper application called Test Flight to make this process easier.
Test Flight helps us collect your iPad's Unique Device ID (UDID), a sequence of letters and numbers that is unique to your iPad. We then make a special version of Xylem that includes your Device ID, and give that back to you via Test Flight.
You only need to use Test Flight for the beta version of Xylem. The final release will be available from Apple's app store, just like any other iPad game.
On your iPad, go to http://tflig.ht/WEiBke in Safari. You can either click on this link, or type in the URL, being careful to enter capital letters as capitals and lower case as lower case.
Enter your name, email, and password to create an account with TestFlight. The Xylem team will see your name and email, but not your password. Do not select the Developer option. When complete, press the Sign Up and Join button. If you succeed you will see the confirmation below
The screen below will now be visible. Press the Connect Device button to begin the process of telling Test Flight about your iPad
Test Flight needs to install a profile onto your iPad to support its operation. To install this profile, press the View All Apps button on the CHEKOFV beta signup page. You will now see a popup titled, Reconnect this device by installing profile. Now press the Reconnect Device button. You will leave Safari and enter the Settings app
On your iPad, press the Install button in the Install Profile window. Your iPad will ask you to confirm this, with a popup that asks, "Installing this profile will change settings on your iPad." Press the Install Now button. This installs the Test Flight profile.
The new profile has now been installed, and screen below will now be visible. Press the Done button to move on.
Your device is now connected, Now it's our turn. We have your Unique Device Identifier (UDID), and will prepare a custom version of Xylem that will work on your iPad. You will receive an email from the Xylem team within 1 working day.
On your iPad, read the email you received. Select the Install button in this email.
If you cannot read email on your iPad: in Safari on your iPad, navigate to http://testflightapp.com/ and log in if necessary (the Log In button is in the upper right of the page, to the left of the green Sign Up button). You will then be taken to your Apps page in Test Flight, where the Xylem app will be visible. Select the Install button, and the Xylem app will download to your iPad.
Xylem: The Code of Plants will now be visible on one of the home screens of your iPad. Press the Home button (round button on the front of your iPad) to leave Safari and return to the home screen. Swipe to move from screen to screen, until you see Xylem. Tap the Xylem icon to start the game.
